Coventry City Council has agreed to extend the period for which they can pay Discretionary Housing Payments (DHP) to help people who have been benefit capped to the end of March 2017. You will be expected to pay the first £30 per week of the rent shortfall. If you cannot manage to pay the first £30 then it is possible for more help to be given but you will need to provide a full income and expenditure form.
Birmingham City Council are going to be assisting with DHP payments for 13 weeks for those affected by the Benefit Cap. You need to contact Birmingham contact centre to make the claim.
DHPs should be a last resort if there is no other way of getting help towards your rent shortfall. More information is available in the Benefit Cap section.
