Income Support Sanctions

sanctioned

The rules for Income Support sanctions have been changed from 3rd December 2012. Sanctions on Income Support apply to people who fail to attend a work focused interview.  This is mostly single parents but some other people can also be required to attend work focused interviews while they are claiming Income Support.

Single parents who are paid Income Support are expected to attend and take part in work focused interviews if their youngest child is aged 1 to 5. Once your youngest child is aged 5 you are expected to claim Job Seekers Allowance. If you fail to attend a work focused interview arranged at the start of your claim the claim may not proceed until you attend. If you fail to attend a work focused interview arranged later in your claim, a deduction of £14.62 per week is made from your benefit until you take part in the work focused interview.

You can dispute this decision on the basis that you have good cause for not taking part in the interview.
